THE STYLISH STUFF: BE MINE

It’s that time of year again. The one that either makes you swoon in anticipation of romantic treats or balk at the very sight of red roses. Of course Valentine’s day can be spent which ever way you choose: whether you prefer to curl up at home with your dog, cat or house rabbit; head to the pub with your favourite bunch of mates or book a table at an haute new restaurant with a significant other. It’s that date mid Feb when you can justifiably treat yourself, a friend or drop big hints to a loved one. With that in mind we’ve done a store sweep at Marks and Spencer and found that if it’s not just pretty little lace things that float your boat – there’s a plethora of other beauties in store to do all of the above. Without further ado…

Spa date with self.

Whether staying at home or heading out, make up artist Frances Prescott lets us in on her tips to create a blissfully-blushed natural look;

“To prep skin I always use Tri-Balm (£46) – it cleanses, exfoliates, moisturises and leaves skin perfectly prepared for make up, I follow this by smoothing a small amount of Too Faced Hangover Primer (£27) onto the face (hungover or not, it’s the perfect hydrating primer and promises to have you looking “fresh faced in a flash”), next up I add a touch of Marc Jacobs Dew Drops Coconut Gel Highlighter (£32) onto the cheek and brow bones and then add a few drops of it to Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream (£28) which gives a lovely natural coverage to the skin. To achieve that just flushed look on the cheeks, I used Milk Makeup Lip + Cheek ($24) in bright pink- it’s a lovely cream based lip and cheek stick and adds that ‘winter walk bloom’ of colour and smooths perfectly to a satiny, natural finish.”

Frances continues – “to create ‘hair-like’ strokes on the brows I used Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz (£22), a retractable pencil that’s easy to use and has a handy comb on the other end. I wanted to keep the eyes very natural so I used Too Faced Shadow Insurance eye primer (£17) to smooth and give staying power to the slither of silver eyeliner from Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel Eye Crayon in N(ice) (£20)Too Faced Better Than Sex (£19) mascara is intensely black and with a curvacious and clever brush that separates, curls and coats every lash. To finish the look I used a teeny bit of the same Milk lip and cheek stick that I used on the cheeks and dabbed it onto the centre of lips to give a subtle tint, finally, I swept a fat powder brush across the three colours in the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette (£59) and lightly dusted it over the entire face to set the look and give an extra glow.”
